This is the DeSite SLG68V topsoil screener.
It might be the smallest of screeners made by DeSite but it is mighty. The machine weighs 1500 lbs. It can be fed with machines with buckets up to 66 inches wide. The screen deck is 52 inches long just like on the SLG78VF.
The 68 has the exact same suspension as the 78. It also has the same vibratory system as the 78. The 68 is smaller, lighter version making it easier to move around with more compact equipment like mini-excavators and small skidsteers. It has the exact same lift pockets for pallet forks and bucket lift extension as the SLG78. The plate is heave on the front of the machine so it can be connected to a 3-point hitch to move it around with a small tractor that has limited lift capabilities.
The wings on the outside are a 3/8-inch rubber skirt to keep material on the screen deck as it moves down. It also creates a seal so no oversized material gets through to the finished product.
This little screener has a tilting screen deck. The deck angle can be changed just like on the DeSite SLG78 machines. To change the deck angle, loosen the side bolts and rotate the screen deck to the desired position. After the fixed slope has been set, tighten the side bolts.
The SLG 68V is equipped with the same type and size of suspension as the larger SLG78 machine. It has the same tilting screen deck with the same ability to change the slope of the screen deck while being fed with the bucket. A flatter slopped screen deck is better while screening and when the bucket is removed the screen deck stands up, shedding any oversized material that’s left upon it.
Vibrating Tilting Screen Deck
Just like on the other SLG portable screening machines, the DeSite 68V incorporates the 3600 rpm, 110 volt, 7600 ft/lb, dual armature vibratory pack. It has dual eccentrics sitting on each end of the motor spinning at 3600 rpm and that sets up the vibration for the mesh. The vibration transfers up through the plates, down through the fixed tubes. There is a crown rubber that sits in between the tubes and the mesh. When the machine is running the structure is literally jumping up and down, vibrating, which sets up a resonating vibration that goes out the edge of the screen deck. There is space in between the mesh and the tube, which is done on purpose, it allows that part of the mesh to move and vibrate and that’s what makes this machine works so amazing. It also keeps material from sticking to the mesh.
Portability and Mobility
Onsite mobility and portability is one of the big factors that makes DeSite screeners efficient and useful. Like the 78 and 108 topsoil screeners by DeSite the fork pockets are built right into the machine. It is very easy to install the bucket transport lugs. Moving the screener around literally takes seconds. A machine that can lift 1500-1800 pounds can pick up the screener with its bucket. For machines like small tractors a 3 point hitch lugging right into the front of these. The screener structure is strong enough that you can pick it up and move it around by the front. The transport lugs easily come back out. It is easy to move the machine around with pallet forks. Put the forks through the fork pockets, pick up the screener and move it around.
Feed Height and Mesh Sizes
Feed height on the SLG 68V by DeSite is about 77 inches. For small 25 to 35 horsepower tractors, double check the lift capacity height on the tractor. Some customers use them and put down a foot of fill to lift the front end up to get that down to a 5 and ½ foot heed height, making it a little bit more comfortable feeding. The SLG 68V can be feed from the front or back side. There is no feed deflector on this machine. Some people poor material through on one side and then come around to the other side, scoop it back up and throw it back thru. That gives them their very best production. The 68V topsoil screener will work in all types of material, wet, dry, big, small. All sizes and moisture contents will work in the 68V. IDM offers mesh down to 1/8” all the way up to 4 inches for making a rift raft material.
Give IDM a call. This 2019 model 68V machine sells for $4700 plus freight. There is nothing else out there in the market that is comparable in production, durability, build quality and in price that is designed for buckets up to 66 inches wide.
How are DeSite Topsoil Screening Machines Manufactured?
The machines are all laser cut. DeSite uses CNC forming. We pay attention to the details. For example, the side plate is laser cut but then it it’s CNC formed to produce a smooth radius on the outside that is resistant to cracking. A plate is placed at an angle to create a triangular structure making the machine very strong. Little spots are cut out with the laser machine to show the welder exactly where and how far to lay wire feed welding. Every panel built is exactly the same as the previously built panel. Half in plate is used for the reinforcing and part for structure. The feed deflector is also laser cut and CNC formed so it has the radius reducing the chances of cracking. Other manufactures will cut a piece of plate and stitch weld a piece of tubing to the edge of it. The tubing and plate are only as strong as the stitch weld. There is no chance for a crack to start on the DeSite CNC formed structure. Look very close at the fit and finish of other machines and how they are built and you’ll understand why DeSite Screeners are outside screening day in day out for many years.
